Crossing the Line

Meta-Comedy, Directed by Jason Potgieter | Written by Roger Thomas | Performed by Roger Thomas and Wojtek Lipinski

Do you hate your job? Ever fantasise about doing something different, maybe something exotic or even xxx? Crossing the Line invites you to meet Shayne, a greying 40-something Londoner whose job has most of the attributes of any other – long hours, tiring work, varying levels of satisfaction and sometimes interesting (though mostly annoying) clientele.

By allowing the audience to follow the way he lives his day-to-day life as a paid up, card carrying member of the ‘oldest profession on earth,’ Shayne hopes to expose the dark, murky underbelly of the male escort industry for what it really is, – a way to pay the bills. Based on real-life stories from those in the trade, Crossing the Line is a casual meta-comedy that promises to give you your money’s worth.

WHEN: Wed 11th Apr 9pm and Mon 16th Apr  to Sat 21st Apr 9pm  TICKETS: R100.00 or R90.00 booked and prepaid

Breasts: a play About Men

One-man Show. Directed by Matthew Muller | Starring Cameron Robertson | Written by Greig Coetzee

The premise of the piece is very simple. It’s about men talking about women; their mothers, daughters, lovers and others. Except in the telling these men inadvertently reveal more about themselves than the women concerned’ –Greig Coetzee

This one-man show presents an intimate journey of self-discovery through the stories of four white South African men – a Comrades marathon runner tries to prove to his wife that he cries, a best man and groom make fools of themselves at a disastrous wedding reception, and a man tries to have his final say at his hippie mother’s grave.

Although written in 2000, the play interrogates men’s obsession with and objectification of womens’ breasts that have gone unchanged to this day. The play suggests that these men have lost a crucial connection with the women in their lives and their attempts to reconnect with them, more often than not, results in false perceptions, frustration, animosity and unhealthy obsessions. These characters, however flawed, offer a glimmer of hope that through their mistakes and failures, this generation can learn how to be and make better men.

WHEN: Wed 11th Apr to Sat 14th Apr 7pm   TICKETS: R90.00 or R80.00 booked and prepaid

Wo!Man

Burlesque/Boylesque.  Presented by Black Orchid Burlesque and featuring King St.Fox, Bon Bon, Diva Disastar, Wolf.Steel and Dear James, as well as guest performing artist – Vita Nova from The Rouge Revue
Black Orchid Burlesque ZA is excited to present “Wo!MAN”, another Gender Bender variety showcase featuring creative performances pieces from some of your favourite burlesque and boylesque performers. This topsy turvy evening will be hosted by the Queen of Bawdy Banter herself, Proff. DD Boobs, and we guarantee you will leave laughing. So come on down and experience the world of DRAG and DRAB.

“Sometimes, I feel sexy in a slinky dress and lipstick. Sometimes, I feel handsome in a button down and tie. Sometimes, I wear ties with skirts, corsets and cufflinks. I am a gender-bender, and I can bend gender norms to fit my conception of who I am!”

By pushing the envelope of gender conformity, fashion and human spectacle through expression of elaborate, glamorous and often satirical performance art forms, our performers play on topics that are often considered taboo by general social standards.
