City Walk: Interfaith Route

Journey to the Religious Heart of the City

This City Walk is curated by  Gwynne Robins who is a founder member and long-time secretary of the Cape Town Interfaith Initiative and was a director of the former Faith Based Alliance for Social Development. The Cape Town Interfaith Initiative is the driving force in the pursuit of inter-religious understanding and dialogue. This Interfaith City Walk reflects its mission to celebrate and share the richness of the religious and spiritual diversity, and to promote community interfaith understanding, harmony and co-operation, through both an awareness of universal spirituality and an honouring of the dignity of difference. This walk is a mini pilgrimage, revealing that we are indeed one city with many cultures, roots and faiths.

Stops include:

Prestwich Memorial Building & Garden; St Andrews Presbyterian Church; South African Slave Church Museum; Auwal Mosque 1794; St George the Martyr’s Anglican Cathedral; Dutch Reformed Church – Groote Kerk; St John’s Street Synagogue, now South African Jewish Museum; Central Methodist Church, now District Six Museum

There are 15 stops in all on this fascinating walk through the City Centre.
