Woodstock is not only one of Cape Town’s oldest suburbs but also a great example of one that escaped the trauma of forced removals during apartheid. Woodstock has therefore always been a racially mixed suburb. Identifi ed as one of the most contemporary, authentic and vibrant suburbs of Cape Town, Woodstock has developed into trendy creative pockets with many derelict buildings transformed into artisan, design studios and energetic common spaces for sharing. During the day this is an easygoing friendly ‘burb’ for all to enjoy. And don’t be surprised if you make a few friends along the way.
Highlights include visits to the five most prominent creative hubs in Woodstock; a visit to some of the historical buildings like the Old Castle Brewery Building and Ruth Prowse School of Art that used to be part of the original Roodebloem Estate; some craft beer and food pairing; and a visit to the world of Haldane Martin, one of SA’s iconic furniture designers.
