Project 90 by 2030 and the Two Oceans Aquarium at the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town requested Sustainable Power Solutions to install a demonstration grid-connected solar PV power plant and wind energy system, commissioned 30 June 2011.

The site targets the general public, and also creates awareness among visiting school groups about the benefits of renewable energy and what can be done to help reduce energy consumption in South Africa.

The electricity generated by the solar PV power plant is monitored and displayed on a LED display and a LCD screen at the entrance of the aquarium. These displays will create awareness among visitors and staff members, who are able to evaluate first-hand how much energy is saved at the site.

    Installation dates: 28 June – 27 August 2011
    Commissioning date: 27 August 2011
Upgrade of Solar PV System to 5 kWp: 7 September 2012
Installation of Weather Station: 20 December 2012
