World jazz artist Frank Paco in Gugs

by | Jan 24, 2017 | News | 0 comments

World jazz artist Frank Paco brings fresh tracks from his latest album, New Horizons and his previous albums on Sunday 5 February as part of Jazz in the Native Yards’ Summer Jazz Series .

This gig which forms part of the Jazz in the Native Yards’ Summer Jazz Series is made possible by Concerts SA , a joint South African/Norwegian live music development project housed within the SAMRO Foundation. Concerts SA receives financial, administrative and technical support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAMRO, the SAMRO Foundation and Concerts Norway to support live performances across South Africa.

Born in Mozambique, Frank started playing drums when he was 11, from drums that were made out oil canisters – such was the shortage of musical instruments in a war-torn country at the time.

From these humble beginnings, Frank’s career has been meteoric and seen him perform with some of the greatest musicians around the world.

He has played in the 46664 Mandela AIDS concert performing with Queen’s Bryan May and performed with Roger Taylor, Bono, Peter Gabriel, Jimmy Cliff, Jonny Clegg to mention a few.

Frank is a co-founder of Tucan Tucan, Virtual Jazz Reality, Loading Zone and Uhambo (Collab-Norway, Denmark, SA, Mozambique)

Paco will be joined by an exciting band made up of Blake Hellaby on keyboards saxophonist
Buddy Wells and Sean Sanby on bass.
