Table Mountain Cableway – “It’s a big year for us – just a few hours ago, we had the privilege of welcoming our 29-millionth visitor to the Cableway. While waiting in line, Muzi Sibanyoni and Pearl Shoba, of Durban, were apprehensive, surprised and then elated to find out that Muzi had been chosen as the big winner of the day!”
“I’m actually here [in Cape Town] for work! This is my third time to the mountain … [but] we’ve never been to the mountain together, so this is our first time together,” said a grinning Muzi.
Muzi was identified by the Cableway team from the crowd and asked to step out of the line. He and Pearl were unsure of why they were being asked to leave, but Pearl finally convinced Muzi to follow her out of the long queue.
The Cableway team were ready with flowers, a hamper and cheers as Muzi was draped with a sash to mark the achievement. The couple was taken via a secret passageway to a waiting cable car, and ascended the mountain together.
Wahida Parker, managing director of the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company, says she and the entire team are thrilled with the outcome of today, and the events of the past year: “Today is a wonderful celebration for us. It’s the first time that we welcome our 28-millionth and our 29-millionth visitor in one year … in January of this year, we welcomed our 28-millionth visitor!”
“Twenty-nineteen has been a big year for the Cableway. We celebrated 90 years of taking visitors up and down Table Mountain, and today we were able to commemorate welcoming one-million visitors in under 12 months!”
