♦ The 1960s Tony award-winning Broadway musical Cabaret, featuring music by John Kander and Fred Ebb and based on stories by Christopher Isherwood, has made a comeback. The Cape Town show is directed by Matthew Wild and features Charl-Johan Lingenfelder and Claire Taylor. The story is set in pre-World War II Berlin and follows the life of Sally Bowles, a singer in the underground Kit Kat Klub, where she and her ensemble take the stage nightly to encourage the crowd to forget their troubles.

♦ Another Broadway classic, Little Shop of Horrors, is being staged with a cast that includes Alan Committie as Seymour Krelborn and Michael Richard as Mr Mushnik, directed by Steven Stead, with design by Greg King. Krelborn works and lives in a “rundown flower shop on Skid Row” and looks for ways to make his shop a success. He decides to buy “an exotic plant” that eventually attracts customers. But in the end the plant becomes more of a headache for Krelborn.
