“As the city of Cape Town began to realise the impact of the tourist industry on the local economy, the city’s tourism authority began to actively market Cape Town as a gay-friendly destination. This active and identity-based place promotion is materialised in the form of the Pink Map an annual publication that since 1999 has attempted to map the city’s queerness for gay and lesbian visitors.,” observeDr Bradley Rink.
He brought the Pink Map to ‘Tourism in the Global South: Landscapes, Identities and Development’ a conference held in Lisbon, Portugal.
As reported in a previous blog, Dr Rink gave the Pink Map exposure in the academic world.
