Exhibiting artists that share their knowledge of the wild places here and beyond

The Annual Wildlife 2024, opening at The Cape Gallery seeks to expose South Africa’s rich ecological heritage. Bordered on three sides by the ocean, the diverse terrain within our country supports a variety of plant, bird and animal life. Exhibiting artists know that in sharing their knowledge of the wild places here and beyond they are contributing to preserve them.

Robert Koch, Porte des elephants

“Rock art dating back to Neolithic times throughout the Sahara show that elephants were at that time widespread across much of North Africa. Nowadays they are restricted to the Gourma area, a remote region in Mali south of a loop made by the River Niger near Timbuktu. These elephants are the remnants of several groups which used to inhabit large areas of the Sahel as recently as 1970, before mostly being eliminated by poachers.” – Robert Koch
