#ArtAtHome, arranged by Friends of the South African National Gallery, helps you to make the most of your art, with two Zoom sessions with experts on 11 & 18 August.
“Living with art – loving what you have, making the most of it and where best to buy/sell – join us for relaxed Zooms with a range of experts,” reads the invite from Friends of SANG.
- First up this Wed (11 Aug), 5:30 – 6:30pm, the discussion is led by:
Stefan Hundt, the curator of Sanlam’s significant South African art collection in Belville, just outside of Cape Town, who has been advising their clients and many others about investing in art. Before he joined Sanlam in 1997, he was the curator at Oliewenhuis Art Museum, the national museum in Bloemfontein
Phillippa Duncan, an avid and canny art buyer who consults on art. Based in Wynberg, she is on the Council of the Friends of the South African Iziko National Gallery and has just done her Art Masters at Maastricht University School of Business and Economics. (She re-hangs her collection every year, see image below for the recent rehang with Picture Hanging Services.)
Nyakallo Maleke will join briefly from her studio in Doornfontein (Joburg) at August House where there are 50 artists, 12 are now exhibiting in central Cape Town spaces ranging from Eclectica to Alliance Française (Nyakallo is at the AVA)
Sara Hallatt, who runs August House and set up their META Foundation which is all about helping artists and developing art audiences
Roland Gunst aka John K Cobra, a conceptual artist, filmmaker and musician of Belgian-Congolese descent, whose studio is also at August House and has work at Nel (Church/117 Long St)
Plenty of time for questions – we want this to interactive and helpful. The art world can be scary.
- Next Wed (18 Aug), presenters are:
Arisha Maharaj (pictured above), Strauss art specialist based in Joburg – on the in and outs of buying/selling at auctions, especially online, plus some of the lingo
Gail Bosch, Head of iTOO Artinsure (Hollard) about adding art to your household insurance (or not!), where damage typically happens and their art register
