Jaret Loggenberg invites us to celebrate the 2nd birthday of the The Artists Gallery in Cape Town and brings us up to date about some of the Travelling Artists Gallery’s exhibitions of South African art in and around Europe.
Listen to the Art Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm on Fridays at 17h30
First – birthday wishes to The Artists Gallery! You can pop in tomorrow, Saturday 5 July between 10:00 and 14:00 for their party to celebrate their 2nd year in Cape Town.
Jaret has just recently returned from her exhibition The Future Painted Bright held at the South African Embassy in Berlin. The exhibition is also an act of giving back. A portion of all artwork sales from this exhibition will be donated to Emyezweni Preschool in Lwandle – a place that holds deep meaning for Jaret. She is delighted to report back that her show is almost sold out!
Barbara Lenhard, starting with an exhibition in Hamburg, Germany, invited the world to view the work of South African artists. Barbara established this travelling gallery that exhibited in various cities in Europe, and Jaret was one of the artists. It was Jaret that suggested that Barbara establish a gallery in Cape Town. And it’s now 2 years since The Artists Gallery was established here.
And currently The Artists Gallery is having a group exhibition in Hamburg, where it all started!
The Artist Gallery always has group exhibitions, but each month they have one wall devoted to the Artist of the Month. The artist Corné Eksteen was featured and Claude Chandler will be featured this month.
The current group exhibition features the work of the 26 artists . And the good news is that currently the gallery has an Open Call, reaching out for work on the theme Connect With Colour. Entries must be submitted by 15 August and the exhibition will open on 2 October. For more information, artists can contact the gallery or go to the submission form on their website.
Jaret also tells us that Claude Chandler and Fadiel Hermans are on an Artists in Residence programme in Germany – an opportunity to travel, be inspired and show the world what they are doing.
LOTS to celebrate at The Artists Gallery – wishing them many more years in the Mother City and their ongoing commitment to telling the world about South African art and artists.
