Delete Nton’ntoni is the title of the exhibition at HUB Gallery and CEO Mirna Wessels and curator and artist Tega Tafadzwa walk us through this vibrant 4 man exhibition that runs through to 26 October 2026.

Tega explains the name of the exhibition, which evolved as the four artists, himself, Lwando Dlamini, Knowledge Marongedza and Luyanda Mkhuthungu, sat together in their studio. It is a phrase used by Shona and Xhosa people and recognising they shared similarities despite different, nations, different backgrounds and different cultures. Tega refers to his beautiful grandmother – whenever she needed anything she asked you to pass on the Nton’ntoni – an expression also used in Xhosa. As four artists they see they have something in common, to express together.
Tega continues to explain how they came together to create this very striking exhibition of black artists. Tega focuses on people who have left their countries and come to South Africa, looking for better lives and future. But in their journey there are struggles – ups and downs. They cannot do their professional jobs and end up doing anything to earn an income. For instance, they work in restaurants, looking after people’s dogs, cleaning houses – but they keep smiling. These are very striking portraits.
Lwando is from Langa and Luyanda from the Eastern Cape and Knowledge from Zimbabwe – each one talking about where they are from and where they are now. There are works that are tactile and three dimensional, others more subtle, but altogether a very striking exhibition in the atmospheric HUB Gallery.
Mirna explains that Delete Nton’ntoni is an example of work presented by HUB, who have a new shoevery 2 or 3 months. The intention is to give a space to artists that are in their network. Spier Arts Trust run an eco-system of artists and provide opportunities to exhibit.
This is another striking exhibition at the HUB Gallery that you do not want to miss!
