The very popular Arstcape free lunch hour concerts will be the last two on offer for 2019 in the majestic Artscape chandelier foyer on December 3 and December 4 at 1pm.
- Tuesday, December 3
The first, on Tuesday, December 3, is the Cape Town Opera Chorus and Young Artists in Concert. Enjoy a break from your long day at the office with music from Verdi to Makeba, and spirituals to African traditional, performed by Cape Town Opera’s chorus and young soloists, accompanied on piano by Tertia Visser-Downie.
- Wednesday, December 4
The second concert, on Wednesday, December 4, is The Legends Culture Group and Malay Choir (photo above) presenting the Cape Minstrels/ Kaapse Klopse. The concert shares the cultures and customs emanating from the Cape Malay culture, showcasing traditional songs from Rosa and Minstrel music to Cape Christmas songs, sung in true Cape Town fusion style. Enjoy songs like Happy days are Here Again, Die Alibama, Welcome to Cape Town as well as I’m dreaming of a Cape Christmas among a host of other perennial festive favourites.
Artscape CEO, Marlene le Roux is elated at the prospect of the two shows running on consecutive days, saying: “This is the kind of initiative that we at Artscape are very proud of – bringing all people – from the homeless to the business executives – together around the arts and showcasing the diversity of this province – all for free! It is part of our commitment to the province and its people to offer a safe space for all to share in the beauty of the arts, while affording different arts organisations an opportunity to showcase their unique talents – something we always hold dear.”
These free lunch hour concerts form part of Artscape’s commitment to its adjacent communities to bring you a more fulfilling, stress-free lunchtime experience.
