On the Sanlam Arts Round Up, AVA Gallery Curator, Olga Speakes, takes us through four new and diverse exhibitions that have just been installed at the  gallery and will remain on view through to the 5th June. Watch this space for any walkabouts that might be on their calendar.

Listen to the Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm on Fridays at 17h30

Olga highlights the fact that the Association of Visual Arts Gallery is the oldest non profit art gallery in Cape Town with a mission to support and advance contemporary art and artists. And they do that by providing emerging and independent artists with a platform to showcase their work. And that is what these four new exhibits intend to do.

We are then taken through the four new exhibitions in more detail.

TEMERAMENTAL Group Show Curated by Chloe de Villiers

The artists are all female – Alia Ismail, Athene Azure Hage and Alexa Brews. The focus is on process and their approach to the materials they use. Memory. emotions, personal history, familial connections and longing are themes that run through this group exhibition.Temperamental, AVA Gallery

The next exhibitions bring together artists from different countries, different geographies and different backgrounds.

FROZEN TALES – Group Show Curated by Sonia Martins Mateus

The exhibition is a conversation between South African artists and French/Portuguese artist Sonia Martins Mateus.
The conversation started when Liza Grobler invited Sonia Martins Mateus to a 3-month research and production residency.. The South African artists are Liza Gobler, Wonder Martinus,  Liza Grobler, Swain Hoogervorst, and Norman O’Flynn.  The exhibition looks at the individual practices of the different artists

There are exciting prints, new media and hybrid forms.an exhibition that is exploring a new visual language.
