Woodworks is a group exhibition at Brundyn Arts + Culture in Cape Town, with artists exploring the multi-disciplinary applications of wood through carving, painting and woodcuts.
The Becoming Subject: An Intimate Gaze into the Career of Ayana V. Jackson, is a solo exhibition at the Boschendal Manor House. Ayana, based between the United States and South Africa, and runs a residency programmes in Johannesburg. She recently had an exhibition at the Smithsonian Museum, so it really is exciting to be showing her work locally. The historic backdrop of Boschendal is particularly fitting. She is showing large scale photos of herself, in elaborate costumes that she has made, that reflect on colonialism, identity and her history as a Black artist living in the States but also with her connections in Africa..
Goya in Africa is a project that Brundyn has been working on with the Athena Art Foundation in the UK. This is essentially a digital on-line exhibition that can be seen in an exhibition of prints at the Westin Hotel, that include responses by South African artists such as Athi-Patra Ruga and Marlene Dumas. This is timed for Cape Town Art Week, that includes the Investec Cape Town Art Fair, and will run from the 19 to 23 February.

Stephani explains that Woodworks, the Cape Town exhibition, includes sculptural and 2 dimensional works in wood by artists who draw thoughtful and multilayered conceptual and formal possibilities from the medium. Woodworks includes work by Cecil Skotnes – both older and more contemporary works and Serge Alain Nitegeka to name a few of the artists.
Lots to look forward to and MapMyWay will keep you posted about what Elana Brundyn and Stephani Miller have lined up for us in this exciting start to 2025.
