 Iziko Museums’ Women’s Day Programme

On Women’s Day and in the year of Charlotte Maxeke, join Iziko Museums of South Africa for a series of virtual events and *FREE entry to selected museums this Women’s Day – 9 August 2021.

Iziko Museums’ Women’s Day programme will pay a special tribute to all women who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and democracy we enjoy today. Here, we remember the 20 000 women of South Africa, who, of different diversity, led a protest march to Pretoria in 1956 to oppose the apartheid laws that were designed to undermine the dignity of the black majority.

  • Generation Equality: Realising women’s rights for an equal future

Join Iziko for a panel discussion: titled Generation Equality: Realising women’s rights for an equal future, this panel discussion will feature women who play an important and significant role in society: young activists, poets, academics, parliamentarians, researchers and general members of various communities. This discussion comes at a time when museums are transforming into sites of inter- and intra-generational conversations and dialogues – demonstrating the vital role museums play as sites of engagement and cultural diplomacy.
