Dance Theatre Africa presents Blue Violin

by | Mar 23, 2019 | News | 0 comments

Blue Violin, a new work, presented by Dance Theatre Africa (DTA), opens at the Artscape Theatre for a short season from 28 to 30 March 2019. It is a most stimulating and thought provoking exploration of the connection between sound and colours and their connection with creation.

‘We explore the affects that colours and sounds have on our subconscious and unconscious mind through contemporary dance’, says Producer/Choreographer Tercia Amsterdam. ‘All senses, emotions and train of thought, will be stimulated as the audience engage in a performance of exquisite South African artistry.’

Representing the various colours, are, Kristin Wilson-Blue, Shaun Oelf-Purple, Grant Edam-Orange, Luyanda Mdingi-Green, Ilze Williams-Red, and Lee Piedt-Yellow. Black and White will be performed by all the dancers.

‘We have learnt that sound and colour are related scientifically, as pitch is heard by the ears and light seen by the eyes. Each colour and sound will be joined with interpretive movement, revealing its very nature’, explains Amsterdam.

The programme will also include a work choreographed by Kristin Wilson-Blue with dancers Tom Thorne and Joy Millar.

Blue Violin is directed by South African contemporary dance legend, Adele Blank. Original music has been composed by Bogdan Pashovski and Poetry is by Melissa Titus. Tercia Amsterdam is the founder and Artistic Director of Dance Theatre Africa.
