The Milnerton Players - a Cornerstone of Cape Town’s Community Theatre Scene

A Double Bill of Geraldine Aron’s poignant one-act plays comes to The Milnerton Playhouse from 27 June to 12 July 2025.

The Milnerton Players proudly present Mickey Kannis Caught My Eye and Bar and Ger, brought to life at The Milnerton Playhouse under the direction of acclaimed theatre artist Godfrey Johnson and starring Gregan Aherin, Kendra Maduray, Jean-Marie Schoots & Chris Cameron-Dow

Known for their understated power, emotional clarity, and deeply human themes, Aron’s one-acts explore the aching intersections of love, identity, memory and regret. This compelling double bill is a study in intimacy and introspection—stories that remain with the audience long after the curtain falls.

🟩 MICKEY KANNIS CAUGHT MY EYE
In this heartfelt drama, the flamboyant Mickey Kannis finds himself caught between family and a life unlived. Playing the title role is Gregan Aherin, a full-time actor making his debut with The Milnerton Players. With a background in musical theatre, film, and voice artistry, Aherin brings a layered intensity to the role.
Starring opposite him as Diana is Kendra Maduray, in her second production with The Milnerton Players. Maduray brings an emotional vulnerability to a woman navigating marriage, identity, and the quiet ache of compromise.
Jean-Marie Schoots joins the cast as Helen, returning to the Playhouse stage after standout performances in Christmas in Cape Town and Live with Ivy. Usually found behind the sound desk as a second-year sound engineering student, Schoots steps fully into the spotlight with poise and purpose.
Rounding out the cast is Chris Cameron-Dow as Bernie. Known primarily for his musical direction and piano work, Cameron-Dow steps into his first dramatic role with natural charm as the well-meaning cousin and serial entrepreneur.

🟨 BAR & GER
This moving two-hander follows the autobiographical story of siblings Barry and Geraldine. Gregan Aherin returns to the stage as Bar, delivering a grounded performance that contrasts with his earlier role in Mickey Kannis. Opposite him, Jean-Marie Schoots transitions seamlessly into the role of Ger, capturing the tenderness and truth of a sister looking back at grief with quiet courage.

Godfrey Johnson
This production is helmed by Godfrey Johnson, the award-winning composer, performer, and theatre director whose Fleur du Cap-winning work spans continents and genres. With recent directing credits including KRUGER by Pieter de Vos, Johnson brings a nuanced and artistically rich vision to Aron’s timeless works.
