Durbanville Garden’s first ever Rose Show

by | Nov 8, 2023 | Green, News | 0 comments

More than 5 000 varieties of roses in full bloom on show!

It’s bloomin’ lovely at Durbanville Garden’s first ever rose show and the City of Cape Town’s Recreation and Parks Department invites garden enthusiasts on Saturday, 11 November from 10:00 until noon. More than 5 000 varieties of roses in full bloom will be on show.

This will be the first Rose Show at Durbanville Rose Garden and this highly anticipated event provides a unique opportunity for rose enthusiasts, garden aficionados and the broader community to immerse themselves in the enchanting world of these exquisite flowers.

Earlier this year, rose enthusiasts and garden lovers participated in the annual rose pruning workshop and the event will celebrate the results of their pruning efforts.

The show features a diverse collection of roses, from classic varieties to modern hybrids, each distinguished by its unique colours, fragrances and forms.

Attendees will have the opportunity to wander through the meticulously maintained rose garden and gain valuable insights into the care and cultivation of roses, perfectly timed for the upcoming summer.Durbanville Garden, Rose Show

In addition to showcasing a wide array of roses, the event will provide a wealth of knowledge for gardening enthusiasts, garden lovers and anyone interested in the subject.

A highlight of the event will be the special launch of a project aimed at obtaining more antique and heritage rose varieties. These varieties will be sourced and propagated to further develop and enhance the garden.

Visitors will be able to explore landscaping ideas that incorporate roses into their outdoor spaces, creating fragrant garden designs.

For those who may have missed the annual rose care pruning day earlier this year, a refresher session will be included. This will equip attendees with essential skills for nurturing their own rose gardens.

Participants are encouraged to bring their gloves and good-quality secateurs if they wish to participate practically in deadheading the roses.

Please save the date, mark your calendar and join this FREE event.
