Special Focus - August is Women's Month

The good news is that the walkabout of the William Fehr Collection by Iziko Curator, Esther Esmyol, which we were going to talk about today, will be rescheduled for Kuier@theCastle on Saturday31 August. Because of the very severe weather alert for tomorrow, the monthly market at the Castle of Good Hope has been cancelled. So please take a rain check.

Museum Saturday at Rupert Museum tomorrow Saturday 27th is a buzz of activities for all the family. But let me focus on 2 events in particular.

Rupert Museum, Artology, Diane Harper

Artology

  • Art Talk by Marion Dixon, Senior Art Specialist and Winelands representative for Strauss & Co, (14yrs+) | 10:30 – 11:30 | Free
Marion tells the story of the life and times of two world-class 20th century artists – Sydney Kumalo and Ezrom Legae. The talk is inspired by Gavin Watkins and Charles Skinner’s The Sculptures of Sydney Kumalo and Ezrom Legae – A Catalogue Raisonné. As a compliment to the talk, the works by both artists represented in the Rupert Art Foundation collection will be on show for the day with copies of the Catalogue Raisonné available for purchase. You will need to book your free ticket on the Rupert Museum website.
  • An Alternative View with artist Diane Harper (18yrs+) | 11:00 – 15:00 |
Join artist Diane Harper as she takes participants on a creative and playful journey through the exhibition Artology – selected artworks from the University of Pretoria Museums. Participants will view the exhibition through viewfinders, forcing one to limit and select a few details of interest. Your views will be the basis for creating something new and unexpected. Look forward to making quick and bold choices with sketching in pencil and markers, combining colour, folding, and cutting as you proceed. Again you will need to book and the cost is R120pp which includes all material.
  • PLUS free Glühwein: A Winter Warmer at the Museum Café and Lionel John on Guitar.

Last Saturday there was a wonderful buzz when 4 Children’s books were launched at Zeitz MOCAA.Children’s Book Series

Orly Rabinowitz,

EBONY/CURATED Cape Town presents a solo exhibition by Orly Rabinowitz titled ‘Presence’ which opened on Wednesday at their Cape Town gallery.
Presence unveils Orly Rabinowitz’s latest work and weaves a richly textured narrative on her connection to our external and internal landscapes. Her journey culminates in this exhibition, her latest reflection on light and darkness, both literal and metaphorical. These are subtle works in terms of colour and texture. You need to see the works to engage and fully appreciate these works by Orly.

Remember it’s Woman’s Day on 9 August and you have all month to celebrate, with events and exhibitions that you need to see and enjoy! And diarize Kuier@theCastle on 31 August with a walkabout of the William Fehr Collection by Iziko Curator, Esther Esmyol.
