FREE Youth Weekend - Norval Student Art Prize Exhibition - Norval Foundation’s Holiday Art Club

The focus is on Youth at Norval Foundation starting with a FREE Youth Weekend. On 14 & 15 June – students and young adults (18 – 24 years old) get FREE entry to the museum! Come explore the exhibitions and sculpture garden with your friends.

Norval Student Art Prize Exhibition opening 16 June

Norval Foundation is proud to announce that the inaugural Norval Student Art Prize (NSAP) exhibition opening and prize giving will be held on Monday, 16 June 2025, coinciding with Youth Day; a day that honours the courage and voices of South African youth.

NSAP celebrates young talent between the ages of 7 and 18 years old, and allowed them to share their artistic interpretations of the current group show exhibition at Norval Foundation: We, the People: 30 Years of Democracy in South Africa and reflect on the theme TO BELONG.

“This student prize marks an exciting step for Norval Foundation in nurturing young talent and reinforcing our commitment to arts education. We are proud to provide a platform where students can engage with South Africa’s history through creative expression.” says Caroline Greyling, Norval Foundation Museum Director.

Each category recognises three winners, which will be on exhibition at Norval Foundation from 16 June 2025.

First-place winners will be awarded a six-month bursary to attend the Peter Clarke Art Centre’s Extra-Mural Programme. Second- and third-place winners will receive an art materials starter pack from ARTSAUCE, along with a publication of choice from the Norval Foundation’s collection. addition.
In Wild Card Prize will be granted to a Grade 10 learner in 2026, offering them a FET Design/Visual Art bursary for the academic year at the Peter Clarke Art Centre.

We are thrilled to be part of this special opportunity, as arts education fosters creative problem-solving – a vital skill in addressing complex socio-economic challenges, as exemplified in We, the People: 30 Years of Democracy in SouthAfrica.”

The Norval Student Art Prize exhibition will be on show and available for public viewing from 18 June 2025. Book an educational school tour by emailing learning@norvalfoundation.org. Children under the age of 18 do not pay a Museum entry fee.

Unleash Your Child’s Imagination at the Norval Foundation’s Holiday Art Club!

Looking for an exciting and creative way to keep your child engaged during the school holidays? The Norval Foundation’s Holiday Art Club offers an inspiring opportunity for young artists to explore their creativity in a world-class art environment.

Designed for children of all skill levels, our hands-on workshops encourage self-expression through activities inspired by the stunning artworks in our galleries and sculpture garden. Led by experienced art education facilitators, participants will be introduced to a variety of artistic techniques, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and mixed media.

What to Expect:
30 June | Watercolour Solar System
Get to play around with different watercolour techniques to create a solar system of all sorts of planets.

1 July | Watercolour Painting
Discover the magic of watercolour painting and oil pastel which allow for a very gentle and fluid transition between colours and blending.

2 July | Paint Like Van Gogh
Paint a landscape painting inspired by Van Gogh.

3 July | DIY Scratch Boards
Create their own scratch board and draw beautiful designs that reveal the colour underneath.

4 July | Mixed Media Crafts
Create artworks portraying insects by combining various materials and techniques, such as paint, paper, fabric and beads
