In association with the City of Cape Town and as part of the Company’s Garden Revitalisation Project, the metamorphosis this iconic landmark venue – the eatery under the trees – has undergone has been journey of transformation involving the hands of many – a project of true collaboration
What was for many years the ‘tea room in the gardens’ now showcases the talents of a wide range of designers, with an emphasis on eco-conscious design that both flatters and mimics the natural environment surrounding the structure.
This daytime eatery, now called Haarlem & Hope, offers a shady haven with a large outdoor seating area, allowing one to take in in the lush green gardens that surround it, as well as a chic interior made from all natural elements such as stone, wood, slate and glass. This serene setting makes one forget they are conveniently positioned right in the buzzing Cape Town city centre, just a stone’s throw away from major city attractions.
As for the menu, it’s been crafted to please, with many of the dishes playing on the traditional cuisine of the Cape and the rich historical background. A selection of breakfasts, such as the van der Stel breakfast, sandwiches and wraps, including a Bobotie wrap, fresh juices, salads and light meals, as well as some more hearty traditional South African dishes, such as Karoo Lamb Chops, should mean there is something for everyone (along with the essential cheese toasties and teatime favourites, such as cream scones and sticky homemade koeksisters of course!). A wide range of artisan teas and coffee, as well as an extensive wine list and fully stocked bar, are also available for you to enjoy.
