The Belinda Ormond exhibition Shape Town is now extended until the 2nd of February 2019.
Hamilton Gallery presents Shape Town, an exhibition by the award winning South African ceramicist Belinda Ormond opening on Saturday 24 November at 10h00.
Belinda Ormond takes inspiration from architectural and organic forms, weaving together Cape Town’s layered history, social geographies and natural treasures in her newest solo project Shape Town, an exhibition of ceramic sculptures.
The Protea kingdom, the passing whales, the leaning pines on Devil’s Peak, the clouds which race over Table Mountain in summer, the Kalk Bay fishing vessels, places of worship, our guardian lighthouses, and the city skyline, amongst other recognisable forms, have been sculptured into free standing ceramic poems. The photo above, which also appears on the invitation, is titled ‘Kaapse Klopse’.
Ormond says of her work:
“I enjoy the constant challenge of materialising the objects that rise up in my imagination; for this reason my work changes course as my efforts follow my inspiration. I like to think my work is a balance between the practical and the fanciful.”
Nestled between quiet Chelsea Village and bustling Wynberg, Hamilton Gallery & Showroom is a viewing platform for the creations of artists and artisans. If you have an eye for interiors, a passion for art, and if a tranquil setting strikes your fancy, be sure to visit them and this remarkable exhibition.
