Elana Brundyn talks us through her striking, multi-level gallery space in Cape Town city-centre and the elegant gallery and sculpture garden at Boschendal Wine Estate.
Elana Brundyn explains that her journey in the artworld has been a long and wonderful one and last year she decided to create an art consultancy. She would be offering and curatorial services using art as a tool, as well as providing an advisory service to collectors, She also wanted to be active and open a office and gallery space, which resulted in her opening Brundyn Arts & Culture in 2023.
The gallery allows her to curate themed exhibitions. Being part of the museum world and curatorial practices, she was looking for the current pushing of boundaries and looking at this internationally. This exhibition has international artists and only 2 South African, African artists, with the them being how artists are moving in media, There is an artist painting in liquid rubber ad another in flower pollen making for an extremely interesting exhibition that is weird, wonderful and reflecting change.
Elana was attracted to the space because of its incredible volume and height, which creates a challenge. The 3 levels allow for offices at the lowest levels and the 2 other levels for exhibitions. Another important element was its openess to the street and public, breaking down the barrier to enter. The gallery reaches out and engages with those passing by!
If you want to consult with Elana, it would make sense to call ahead to make an appointment.
Stephani Müller, who is a member of the Brundyn team, tells us of the current exhibition at Brundyn Art at Boschendal Wine estate. You will be able to enjoy a group show in the Manor House, curated in collaboration with Aspire Art. And around the werf there are 12 sculptures by South African sculptors. So if you are heading for the Franschhoek Literary Festival, this might be something you could add to your agenda.
Lots of good reasons to visit Brundyn Arts & Culture in the city and Brundyn Art at Boschendal that reflect on the contribution that Elana Brundyn is making on the South African art scene.
