Mila Posthumus solo exhibition at StateoftheART

As the title Poolside suggests, most of the works in this collection by Mila Posthumus have water as a central theme, conjuring up sun soaked swimming pools, retro resort living and midnight skinny dips.

“I wanted these paintings to have a joyful slant, and it is difficult not to be happy around a swimming pool. Something happens to people when they are close to water, a certain lightness, and I wanted to capture that.” – Mila Posthumus

Mila Posthumus Biography

Mila Posthumus grew up in Cape Town and currently lives and works on a farm in the Stellenbosch Winelands. Her work has been exhibited in various galleries across the country.

The South African landscape, in particular the city and town-scape, was central in her earlier work, but in recent years her focus has shifted toward portraiture and paintings with a decidedly narrative slant. One of the artist’s evocative works can be seen in the permanent collection at the War Museum of the Boer Republic in Bloemfontein.
