HEAT Festival is proud to present several stand-out theatrical acts from the National Arts Festival (NAF) in their line-up from July 11 to 21.
Andi Colombo‘s I want to write you a submarine has received rave reviews at the NAF. “Colombo infuses her performance with personality, charm and energy,” wrote Singisa Mdungwana in Cue.
Pichi Keane (photo above) is back at the NAF with a unique female in drag cabaret titled “Freshly Squeezed.” Keane’s debut last year earned the artist a Standard Bank Silver Ovation award. Dara Beth‘s emotional one-hander all my ex-lovers are dead, an intimate journey of love, loss, and loneliness, is on the main stage at the NAF and is a highlight of the HEAT Festival.
Sophie Joans‘ Aïo, an offbeat one-woman comedy act in which audiences are prompted to take a closer look at their relationship with technology has been attracting attention at NAF. As has Aldo Brincat‘s semi-autobiographical The Moon Looks Delicious From Here, in which themes of identity, heritage and sexuality are explored from the perspective of a first-generation South African.
Internationally renowned actor and comedian Rob Van Vuuren headlines HEAT with two acclaimed one-man shows: Namaste Bae; a comedic take on new-age healing ceremonies, and Dangled; a dark psychosexual comedy based on Diaries of a Madman by Nikolai Gogal, which veteran theatre reviewer Bruce Dennill concluded was: “Hilarious, desolate, brilliant and cutting – a compact slice of, whisper it, genius.
