Andrew Ntshabele: In the spotlight at The Artists Gallery

One of the most beloved and iconic projects at The Artists’ Gallery, the Feature Wall changes not only in artist but in colour each month — an ever-evolving highlight that sparks curiosity and conversation as visitors eagerly ask, “Who’s next?”

This month, August 2025, the gallery features Johannesburg-based artist Andrew Ntshabele — an artist who connects art lovers around the world through his work. His practice explores the social challenges of his city, seeking to understand the underlying causes of inner-city decay.

Born in 1986, Ntshabele’s art is deeply shaped by his environment. His mixed-media paintings — a fusion of collage, acrylic, and oil paint — are based on photographs he takes during his daily journeys through Johannesburg’s inner city and its outskirts.

While his work is socially critical, it also captures moments of joy and resilience, particularly in scenes of children playing or pausing amid life’s everyday struggles.

A brand-new body of work has just arrived in the gallery.
