The October Trash Bash beach cleanup by the Two Oceans Aquarium heads to Sunset Beach this Saturday 19 October to tackle plastic pollution on the beach.
It was pointed out at the recent launch of the Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation’s Ocean Campus that ‘a healthy ocean means a healthy planet and healthy people’. A healthy ocean is the focus of Trash Bash and we want YOU to help us make a difference.
- The Two Oceans Aquarium and its Foundation are positioned to respond to the need for urgent action to address the negative human-driven changes to the ocean.
“Trash Bash events are a practical way the Cape Town community can contribute to turning the tide and help towards reversing the impacts of human activity. By coming together to clean up our beaches, we stand a chance to pass on to our children a thriving and productive ocean that can support people,” urged Phumza Jongihlathi, Community Relationship Coordinator at the Two Oceans Aquarium.
So, grab your gloves and bucket and join the October Trash Bash community in a fun day out looking after the environment. Look out for items, such as plastic bags, bottles, straws, sweet wrappers, and even the microplastics made up of small pieces of broken hard plastic, contributing to the plastic pollution washed up on Cape Town beaches.
What to bring: Weather-appropriate clothing, bucket for collecting trash, water (in a reusable bottle), reusable gloves (like the ones you’d use for gardening or doing dishes), and a smile!
