MAG – Modern Art Gallery – is a new gallery space created by YOU&I Gallery at Wisbeach Road in Sea Point, and on the FMR Arts Round Up, Henry van den Berg tells us of this new development that literally popped up in December 2025.

Henry explains why YOU&I wanted extra space as an add on to their existing gallery in Regent Road, Sea Point. The new space – MAG – is 2 km away in Wisbeach Road, just off the corner of the Main Road, next to Naked Coffee. They needed a larger space to do solo exhibitions, events, and group shows. Finding more commercial space, which is in great demand in Sea Point, took 2 to 3 years . They signed the lease in November 2025. It was a huge rush setting up and being open in December for the holiday season. Despite the pressure to get organised, it’s been a great success. Fortunately, being established in the art world, they did have an established line-up of artists to rely on.
Looking ahead, in September or October they will have a solo exhibition by an international artist. That will be followed by group show by 3 well known South African artists. And they are now able to plan ahead for the upcoming shows next year.in this new dedicated space.
He and Jean Irvine have been working together for many years. The YOU&I Gallery is a very busy and intense space, with a very specific ambiance. You are confronted by almost too much to cope with. But that creates YOU&I’s own special identity.
The Modern Art Gallery gives them the extra space they need to showcase local and overseas artists, working in a variety of interesting and exciting new media.
