Montebello Design Centre

“We nurture dreams to grow creative solutions from Africa.”The Centre is one of Cape Town’s best kept secrets with twenty-five arts and craft studios and workshops in historic buildings a nursery and stunning restaurant. The Centre is the result of a financial and property bequest by Cecil Michaelis who wished the centre to work closely with the University of Cape Town to nurture design, craft and entrepreneurship in South Africa.

These buildings and land have a colourful history, being the birth place of Ohlssons Brewery and Continental China. Follow the informative history walk around the centre. This link will also tell you the interesting history involving some prominent characters of Cape Town’s past, and activities on the Papenboom estate of Newlands, including its sub-division into small estates, beer brewing, trout hatching, the Montebello homestead expropriation and the struggle for the preservation of some fine examples of period architecture. This information also provides links to the next stops along the way

Montebello Design Centre is a Not for Profit Organisation.
