The Newlands Spring is an important water source in Cape Town. The spring has played an important role in the brewing industry. South Africa’s first licensed brewery was established in the area at Papenboom in 1694. Today, Newlands Spring Brewing Company uses the water in their craft beer. The spring’s water was also used to power water mills from the mid-1800s onwards.
The spring is open every day of the week from 5am to 9pm. Yes, the legendary spring water still bubbles up to this day, as crystal clear and pure as ever. The spot is known for its high-quality water and was a sought-after water source during the peak of Cape Town’s water crisis in 2018.
