    The Norval Foundation is a centre for art and cultural expression dedicated to the research and exhibition of 20th and 21st-century visual art from South Africa and beyond. Located in the Steenberg area of Cape Town, adjacent to Table Mountain National Park, the Norval Foundation combines the experience of art with an appreciation for nature. The innovative Sculpture Garden, outdoor amphitheatre, purpose-built exhibition spaces and research library are situated in a unique setting that offers visitors a multisensory experience. This is complemented by the Skotnes Restaurant and Bar, a bespoke shop and a children’s playground.   • Boulders Beach (TMNP)

    Nestled in a sheltered cove between Simon’s Town and Cape Point, Boulders has become world famous for its thriving colony of African Penguins and magnificent wind sheltered, safe beaches. Although set in the midst of a residential area, it is one of the few sites where this vulnerable bird (Spheniscus demersus) can be observed at close range, wandering freely in a protected natural environment.From just two breeding pairs in 1982, the penguin colony has grown to about 3 000 in recent years. This is partly due to the reduction in commercial pelagic trawling in False Bay, which has increased the supply of pilchards and anchovy, which for part of the penguins’ diet. Boulders forms part of the Table Mountain National Park (TMPNP), which incorporates Table Mountain and the Peninsula mountain chain from Signal Hill to Cape Point. The area comprises a number of small sheltered bays, partially enclosed by granite boulders. The most popular recreational spot is Boulders Beach – recently voted one of the best 50 beaches in Africa – see blog. The penguins are best viewed from Foxy Beach, where newly-constructed boardwalks take visitors to within a few metres of the birds.  

  • Cape of Good Hope – Cape Point

    Don’t miss a visit to Africa’s most south-westerly point, the Cape of Good Hope in Cape Point. This spectacular finger of land, southernmost point of the Table Mountain National Park, is covered in fynbos and home to picturesque bays and beaches. Cape Point offers visitors excellent viewing opportunities from the two lighthouses that adorn the point – one still functional, informative interpretive signage that traces the cultural and natural history of the Point. The lighthouse is accessible by foot or you can catch the Flying Dutchman funicular to the top. This is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts and offers hiking, surfing, angling, picnicking, beaching and cycling opportunities against the spectacular backdrop of the mountains and coastline of the most south western point in Africa.
