Little Diver on a bronze plinth (optional add-on) – Awarded with the Vuleka Award 2026.
Some works of art are there to be looked at. Others seem to look back at you.
The life-size bronze sculptures of South African artist Maureen Visagé most definitely belong to the latter. Combining elegance, movement and a wonderfully subtle sense of humour, her bronze sculptures do more than enrich a space – they bring with them personality, lightness and a playful touch of wit.
Unmistakably Maureen Visagé
With her life-size bronzes, Maureen Visagé brings the same sense of character, playfulness and storytelling that runs throughout her work into a larger, more enduring form.
Her journey into creating life-size bronze figures began with Little Dancer, come play with us. This sculpture was inspired by Maureen’s love of Edgar Degas’ iconic bronze, Little Dancer Aged Fourteen. In Maureen’s interpretation she captures both the innocence and mischievous nature of children that are so central to her work.
Little Dancer was followed by Maureen’s second life-size bronze, Little Dreamer, and now, freshly cast in bronze, comes the third: Little Diver.
While each figure is entirely different, they share the qualities that have become characteristic of Maureen’s work. They are playful, sometimes dreamy, sometimes a little cheeky – and always imbued with that unmistakable sense of humour that runs like a thread through her entire body of work.
Each of these figures tells its own story. And perhaps that is precisely where their particular magic lies: you don’t simply look at them – you almost find yourself giving each one a personality of her own.
An exceptional year for Maureen Visagé
Just three weeks ago, this wonderfully modest artist was awarded 3rd place at the 2026 Vuleka Award, selected from a total of 212 entries at Art.b Gallery.
The Vuleka Award is one of South Africa’s longest-established art awards and has been presented annually since 1963. To be placed among more than two hundred entries is therefore a remarkable achievement and wonderful recognition for an artist whose bronzes have long since found their own distinctive place within contemporary South African art.
Until 30 September (order date), as representatives of Maureen Visagé’s life-size bronze sculptures, we are delighted to offer an exceptional opportunity:
