Dave Endean is the owner of Red The Gallery, and on the Arts Round Up on FMR he tells us that the Art Auction next week will be his 65th at the gallery over the past 25 years.
Listen to the Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm on Fridays at 12:45
Dave admits that he likes going to auctions, but not running them, as it’s always super stressful! The main thing about the auction is that work often sells at half the price, so you’d expect to see tons of people there. But sometimes there are brilliant stories when paintings sell above retail – but that’s few and far between. On average they are selling at half price.
You will be able to see what’s on auction if you visit the gallery (or go online). There are currently about120 paintings, but on auction night only 65 will be for sale – a selection of the best.
There’s no theme – it’s a mixed bag. There are works given specifically for the auction and about 75% are works from Dave’s personal collection that he’s acquired over time. The works are by artists represented by the gallery.
