Kronendal Music Academy (KMA) will host a benefit concert at the Baxter Concert Hall on Thursday, 8 October 2026 at 7pm, in a bid to save the beloved non-profit from closing its doors permanently.
- Presented in partnership with the University of Cape Town’s South African College of Music (SACM), the evening promises an unforgettable night of music, hope, and community as KMA fights to rebuild and reopen after a devastating year.
What began in 2007 with just 15 pupils has grown into a multi-award-winning programme reaching well over 200 children a year. Through music tuition, psycho-social support, and school tutoring, KMA nurtures the mental, emotional, and cognitive wellbeing of young people in the Hout Bay community, using music as a vehicle for personal growth and social change.
That progress was put in jeopardy after KMA unexpectedly lost a major donor at the end of 2025. The setback crippled the organisation’s fundraising efforts throughout 2026, and in July, KMA was forced to make the heartbreaking decision to suspend its activities simply to stay afloat.
“This concert marks our turning point,” said the Academy. “We are asking our community, past pupils, parents, and supporters to help us carry KMA’s legacy into its next 20 years.”
KMA Jazz Band • KMA African Instruments Ensemble • KMA Mass Choir
The evening will showcase two decades of talent nurtured by the Academy, taking audiences on a journey with teacher and pupil. Performers include KMA’s internationally acclaimed Jazz Band, its award-winning African Instruments Ensemble, and the KMA Mass Choir. Through ticket sales, pledges, and donations on the night, the concert aims to raise the funds KMA needs to sustain its work for the next six months and get the Academy back on its feet.
Founded in 2007, the Kronendal Music Academy of Hout Bay is a non-profit organisation that has grown from 15 pupils into a multi-award-winning programme serving well over 200 children a year.
