Two Oceans Aquarium SMART LIVING CHALLENGE ZONE

The Smart Living Challenge Zone, the new interactive zone at the Two Oceans Aquarium, is an exciting initiative to educate children and adults alike on making smarter choices to preserve and protect the environment.

Four digital interactive installations address the themes of energy, water, waste and biodiversity. Today we focus on Biodiversity.
Cape Town is a global biodiversity hotspot, which means it is one of the richest, but also one of the most threatened areas of plant and animal life in the world. We need to take special care of these plants and animals as they are our natural heritage and cannot be found anywhere else on the planet. Nature offers us many benefits – it attracts tourists to our beautiful city, creates many work opportunities, provides areas for us to enjoy, and it helps us to stay healthy.• Visit a local nature reserve.
• Learn about nature and Cape Town’s special biodiversity.
• Always plant local (indigenous) plants in your garden – these are beautiful, water-wise and will support biodiversity. This will also attract local wildlife, such as birds, into your garden.
• Start an organic food garden (which doesn’t use pesticides) at your home, at your school or in your community.
• Be aware that we share our city with many wild animals and always treat them with respect and care.
