Two Oceans Aquarium – Weird and Whimsical School Holidays – Heather Wares, Communications Manager tells us what to expect this weekend and what’s in store over the winter holiday period to make your visit extra special.
Listen to the Arts Round Up on Fine Music Radio FMR 101.3fm on Fridays at 17h30
Heather tells us what to expect this weekend and some highlights as World Ocean Day continues to be celebrated throughout the year at the Two Oceans Aquarium.
Weird and Whimsical? The focus is not the cute and fluffy, such as the penguins, but rather finding the fascinating and unknown at the aquarium. Collect an Activity Sheet when you arrive and enter the competition, first deciding whether you want to join the Weird Team or the Whimsical Team. Then take a photo of what you think is either weird or whimsical and explain WHY. Post to socials and stand a chance of winning a prize! [See: Introducing our favourite Weird and Whimsical animals at the Two Oceans Aquarium ]
Tomorrow – 15 June from 09:00 to 11:00, there will be a Trash Bash at Monwabisi beach. What better way to round off the ocean celebration than doing your part in keeping our beaches rubbish free! Bring your bucket, reusable gloves, friends and family, and enjoy a morning of fun while making a difference.
Book readings of Sandi and the Salty Sea Dogs take place on 15, 16 and 17 from 10:45 – 11:30in at the I&J Ocean Exhibit. You might even be luck to meet Sandi!
Children can also enjoy the daily puppet shows in the I&J Children’s Play Centre at 10h30, 13h30 and 15h30, during the week.
And committed to focusing and celebrating Ocean Day all through the year, Two Oceans is opening the African Penguin Exhibition space. For the children there are buttons to press to learn about the penguins and for the adults an awareness programme about this endangered species. And this exhibition space leads through to the Penguin Beach, where you can interact with the penguins.
Heather also reminds us about the regular feedings on Saturdays and that presenters are always on hand to engage with you and answer questions.
