Cheers to the 2024 Wine Harvest - South African Wine Industry’s Premier Event

The Wine Harvest Commemorative Event, on 1 February, widely regarded as the most prestigious wine event in the country, will once again grace the historic estate of Groot Constantia to mark the beginning of the South African wine industry.

It is an occasion that not only seeks the blessing for the new harvest but also serves as a powerful tribute, acknowledging those who have profoundly contributed to the industry’s success.

1659 Award honours the past and heralds the future

The 1659 Award for Visionary Leadership is a highly regarded accolade commemorating the year when wine was first produced from Cape grapes. This award highlights the accomplishments of those who have significantly impacted the wine industry. Last year, Ken Forrester, known worldwide as Mr Chenin, received this recognition. “Being nominated for the 1659 Award was incredibly special; the opportunity to join the hallowed ranks of all those before me – many of them already legends – was one of the biggest surprises in my life. This is a truly humbling experience to be recognised by one’s peers in an industry that thrives on passion and creativity,” stated Forrester.

How to join the 2024 Wine Harvest Commemorative Event

“Groot Constantia has been proudly linked with the Wine Harvest Commemorative Event, and we’re thrilled to announce that we’ll be hosting this esteemed annual occasion once again,” commented Jean Naudé, CEO of Groot Constantia. This prestigious black tie event includes a sit down dinner with entertainment – an unforgettable evening of dinner and captivating entertainment. See Booking and Ticket info below.

The Event is made possible with the generous support of Groot Constantia, the Western Cape Department of Agriculture, Wesgro, South Africa Wine, Standard Bank, Checkers, Die Burger, and Cape Town Tourism.

“The Western Cape is a world-renowned wine region and a top pick for consumers,” said Wrenelle Stander, CEO of Wesgro. “Known for its diverse terroirs and twenty established wine routes, the region has a wine industry dedicated to quality and sustainability,” added Stander.
