The launch of the Langa Summer Market coincides with the celebration of Langa’s 100 years of heritage this year.
Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic, Environmental and Spatial Planning, Councillor Garreth Bloor, will officially open the first Langa Summer Market on Friday 20 December 2013 at 15:00.
WHERE: Old St Louis Primary School, on the corner of Rubusana Street and N’Dabeni Street, Langa, Cape Town
Highlights of the Langa Summer Market include vendors, live music, and delicious local cuisine. Ten homes on Rubusana Street have been transformed into permanent home-based art galleries which will showcase the creative spirit of this area.
The City has partnered with the non-profit organisation IKhaya le Langa to bring the Langa Summer Market to residents of this area. It is hoped that this market, as part of the City’s commitment to redress, will leave a legacy of opportunities in one of Cape Town’s oldest suburbs by sparking the establishment of a monthly market in the future.
The market is part of efforts build an inclusive city, and to revitalise the Langa Quarter – a business development precinct comprising 13 streets which was developed by IKhaya le Langa. It is home to 7 000 people and is essential to the economic development of Langa.
TIMES: from 20 to 24 December 2013 in the Langa Quarter just off the N2. It will be open from 13:30 to 20:00.
This market is designed to bridge divides – roll on World Design Capital Cape Town 2014!
