In line with the National Day of Prayer and Reflection, the City of Cape Town is hosting a prayer service in honour of the late Nelson Mandela on the Grand Parade tonight, Sunday 8 December 2013.
From 17:00, members of the public are welcome to join in an evening of song and prayer, with jazz music by George Werner forming a backdrop to a series of moving tributes.
The inter-faith community will lead members of the public in prayer, while choirs will lead them in song to honour Tata Madiba.
There will be performances by the legendary Vicky Sampson and multi-talented singer-songwriter, Neo Muyanga (of Blk Sonshine fame).
Former Springbok rugby player Chester Williams, who was inspired by the former president ahead of the 1995 World Cup, will deliver an address and poets will recite fitting homages.
The event will conclude with doves being released in a symbolic gesture of freedom.
