Expect a full day brimming with fascinating events for anyone who loves books, Jewish literature, and culture. The inaugural Jewish Literary Festival (JLF) was a smash-hit and JLF2018 promises to be even more exciting. The whole family can enjoy a day immersed in words words words, as JLF2018 brings you the best in cultural conversation.

The JLF will showcase authors, poets, illustrators, journalists, writers and educators who have a Jewish connection or are engaged with subjects of Jewish interest. The venue is the Gardens Community Centre in Cape Town, home to the acclaimed Jacob Gitlin Library and the Cape Jewish Chronicle, key partners with the JLF.

From 09h00 to 17h00 the various sites comprising the centre will hum with panel discussions, launches, readings, debates, presentations and book-style activities. More than 45 events will cover a variety of genres such as fiction, food, memoir, politics, scriptwriting, journalism, and the arts.

Jewish Literary Festival Line-Up

You can look forward to hearing from, and meeting, a host of talented authors. We’re excited to offer talks by Jennifer Friedman, Damon Galgut, Mark Gevisser, Rosemund Handler, Eliza Kentridge, Natalie Knight, SJ Naude, Gail Schimmel, and Mandy Wiener, to name but a few of our exciting line-up. Any of our authors will be more than happy to autograph their books, all of which will be on sale on site through The Book Lounge, our associated bookseller. Come and enjoy the browsing space and take home some choice and unexpected finds.

A full children’s program is on offer for ages 4-11. Authors, teachers, entertainers and carers will keep the young ones occupied all day with storytelling, workshopping and creative activities. And for the not-so-little ones: this year, we are delighted to be offering a Young Adults track, with inspirational and enticing content facilitated by experts in that genre.

Ticket price includes admission to all sessions, a light lunch and access to bespoke coffee bars that will be open throughout the day for that brief pause between sessions.

The programme has been designed to appeal to all ages and cover a range of genres. It aims to promote constructive dialogue and discussion in the true spirit of Jewish life without promoting any single political or religious agenda. All of this book talk offers the opportunity to meet an assortment of wordsmiths, make new friends, engage with ideas and pick up some great reads.

Don’t miss JLF2018.
