READY, STEADY, GO! Cape Town is all set for the World's Largest-timed Cycle Race
The excitement for the 47th Cape Town Cycle Tour is ramping up this week with a flurry of activity. Here’s a guide to the world’s largest-timed cycle race.
Approximately 30 000 cyclists will be tackling three routes, including the traditional 109km route from the Grand Parade circling the Cape Peninsula on Sunday, 9 March 2025.
The 78km Invitational Women’s Race and the U17 Boys Race will take off from Fish Hoek and finish in Green Point.
For the third year in a row, those looking for a less demanding challenge will take on the 42km route from the Grand Parade to the Southern Suburbs and finish in the city centre.
In 2024, the Cape Town Cycle Tour attracted over 10 500 cyclists from outside the Western Cape representing 46 countries. Cyclists from South Africa brought the overall tally to 47 countries.
‘The Cape Town Cycle Tour is one of the Mother City’s long-standing jewel events, and its impact on our city’s economy and destination marketing over the last five decades cannot be overstated. Its growth during this period has coincided with a rising interest in outdoor sports, an increase in the number of people taking up cycling in our city, and a growing sense of community around fitness and well-being. It is an honour for the City to contribute to the event’s growth over the years and we’re excited to continue this partnership for the 47th edition of Africa’s premier cycling event. To ensure the event is executed smoothly and safely, we provide support through our Safety and Security agencies, who are deployed to assist in the build-up to the event and during race day, ensuring that both participants and spectators can enjoy the event with confidence,’ – City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith.
