Cape Town is the perfect spot for some family fun – no matter the weather. We’ve rounded up our top 5 kid-friendly activities that will satisfy your little one’s appetite for fun and fuel their creativity.

1. Tobogganing at Cool Runnings, Tygervalley

For an unforgettably adventurous day out, let your kids whiz down Africa’s only toboggan track at Cool Runnings. Each sled fits one to two people and is equipped with a safety lever, allowing riders to regulate their speed. One ride will cost between R35 and R40 and a full day pass can be purchased for R250. Cool Runnings operates on Monday to Friday from 11am to 6pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 6pm.

2. Art Jamming, V&A Waterfront

Let your little one fuse creativity and colour to create their very own unique art piece to take home. Art jammers are provided with tools and non-toxic acrylic paints plus the help of the studio’s expert artists. Costs vary from R100 to R600 per person, depending on the desired size of the canvas. The studio is open from 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and on Sundays from 2pm until 6pm.

4. Family Picnic, Green Point Urban Park

Kick back with the kids and enjoy a relaxed family picnic at the beautiful Green Point Urban Park, a little piece of paradise in the middle of the Mother City. Let your kids breathe in the fresh air and explore the rich variety of flora indigenous to the Cape. The park opens at 7am and closes at 7pm daily. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash.

5. The Clay Café, Hout Bay

The Clay Café in Hout Bay has all the ingredients for creative happiness. Adults and kids can select and paint raw pieces of pottery from plates to piggy banks. After design time, kids can run around in the playground or enjoy a delicious bite to eat from the restaurant. It costs R30 per person for three colours of paint, necessary tools, firing and glazing, while the individual items to be painted range in price from R15 to R220. The Clay Café is open every day from 9am to 5pm.
