So it’s no surprise that young Cape Town jazz provocateur Kyle Shepherd is big in Japan–so much so that his debut solo album will be launched there next month. Like Yamashita, Shepherd combines classical precision with free experimentation, drawing on multiple genres and mixing age-old traditions with new urban flavours.
