Gang violence on the Cape Flats has spiked and open gun battles are an almost daily occurrence.

For Premier Helen Zille, the answer lies in deploying the army. Heal the Hood has  different ideas. For the past 15 years, the organisation has been driven by the  faith that hip-hop can lead to a  change in society by providing a space for positive expression. Central to their project is African Hip-Hop Indaba, a yearly showcase of the very best emcees, turntablists, beatboxers, graffiti artists, and B-boys and B-girls. Get a taste this weekend when the finest from the Flats battle it out against the best from other ‘hoods, in a positive and creative  way.
