The die-hard dissident poet&nash;a feisty and tireless spirit who has spoken out against injustice for most of his 80 years&nash;is also a true romantic. So, it’s hardly surprising that award-winning singer Melanie Scholtz has turned to him for inspiration on her new album, Freedom’s Child. The album features Matthews’s poetry set to compositions by Scholtz and performed with her usual grace and attitude. Produced by Mark Fransman, Freedom’s Child also boasts a guest performance by British saxophonist Soweto Kinch.
