Matthew Reid is celebrating his 50th birthday with a concert in the Baxter Concert Hall on 9th November at 8.15pm, in which he will conduct Mozart’s masterpiece “The Serenade for Thirteen Winds”, otherwise known as the “Gran Partita”.

This work was highlighted in the movie “Amadeus”, when Salieri heard Mozart’s music for the first time and was enraptured by the oboe solo in the second movement. Matthew is delighted with his lineup of musicians which include Maria du Toit, Peter Amon, Simon Ball, Carin Bam, Becky Steltzner and Hilary Patterson.

After interval the audience is invited to return for an informal assortment of pieces, including the first movement of Brahm’s Clarinet Quintet (with guests Peter and Suzanne Martens,  Karin Gaertner and Stephen Reid). There will also be some lighter more contemporary items.
