Get ready to be entertained and enchanted at the Cape Town Summer Market. From a blend of well-known and up-and-coming performers to an array of glorious goods, this flagship market is the place to be this summer.
The much-anticipated Cape Town Summer Market starts this weekend with an eclectic blend of musicians providing the soundtrack to the festivities. The market is a celebration of Cape Town’s diverse people and heritage.
The market runs from 14 to 30 December 2013 (excluding Christmas Day and Boxing Day) in the heritage-rich Company’s Garden in the heart of the city centre.
‘The Cape Town Summer Market attracted approximately 80 000 visitors last year. This market is about celebrating the rich heritage of Cape Town. It is also a celebration of the cultural diversity that makes Cape Town unique. This year it is even more important to honour this diversity as we pay homage to the legacy of reconciliation that Madiba has left us,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic, Environmental and Spatial Planning, Councillor Garreth Bloor.
Entertainment includes top acts such as:
Carols by Candlelight service, led by the Salvation Army band will take place on Monday 16 December between 19:00 and 20:30. Those who attend will experience a magical evening, singing along with all the familiar favourites as the sun sets behind Table Mountain.
The Rudimentals, performing Sunday 22 December 2013 from 20:15 to 21:00, are just some of the artists who will make this a memorable market.
Jody Williams, performing on Friday 27 December 2013 from 18:00 to 18:45.

The Company’s Garden will be bustling with stalls selling everything from hand-crafted home décor, stylish clothing and jewellery, to tasty culinary delights and craft beers. Some of the vendor highlights this year include a craft beer garden run by Boston Breweries; Herbs- a-Plenty selling natural wellness products made from fynbos oils produced on their organic farm near Hermanus; and Lizea Sandals, whose handmade leather sandals imported from Spain will add some Mediterranean style to the market.
In addition, many of the most popular vendors from 2012 will be back. These include the Grate Plate, a clever device for grating garlic and other herbs; and Funk my Phone and Karoo Worx, whose sisal vessels, lights and hand-made ceramic pieces sold out before last year’s market ended.
The City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Economic, Environmental and Spatial Planning, Councillor Garreth Bloor, will officially open the Cape Town Summer Market on Monday 16 December 2013.
