Get Naked and Ride this Saturday!

The fourth annual Cape Town Naked Bike Tour will take place this Saturday (8 March).

“As bare as you dare…”

The lack of clothing is symbolic of the vulnerability of cyclists riding in a swarm of CO2 emitting, dangerous steel machines.  Cape Town is one of 50 global cities that hosts the bike ride which seeks to reveal sustainability, as well as anti-discrimination awareness.

“It is a celebration of the bicycle and also a celebration of the power and individuality of the human body.”

Organize a mass bicycle ride and some will notice.  Ride naked and barely anyone will fail to observe.
The Naked Bike Tour is the latest in a series of actions and events Cape Town has hosted to promote equality and eco-friendly practices; last weekend, de Waterkant hosted the highly attended Cape Town Pride festival.  The city also recently announced a Low Carbon Central City Strategy that includes establishing many new kilometers of bike lanes, encouraging the use of public transportation, and transforming concrete lots into green areas.
The bike tour promises to turn heads and stimulate a greater appreciation for the Mother City’s natural beauty, thus making Capetonians more environmentally responsible.
This Saturday at 9:30, join hundreds of other cyclists at Truth Coffee to boldly take a stance (or rather a seat) against the destruction of our environment and unjust social practices.
Clothing is optional, but if you take the conservative approach, please ensure you’re wearing organic cotton.
