Kaapse Stoep Stories with Alistair Izobell is back by popular demand at the Baxter’s Golden Arrow Studio from 17 June to 5 July.
Kaapse Stoep Stories is a collection of stories, threaded together with personal tales and tunes, spoken and sung to the soundtrack of Izobell’s intimate musical journey of life over the years with family, friends and the community he grew up in.
Alistair has performed to local and internationally acclaimed audiences and is well-known for his collaborations with David Kramer and the late Taliep Petersen. He’s produced and performed in Radio Classics with Clarence Ford, including Just me – Net so at the Baxter. He was recently seen in Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers at the Fugard Theatre earlier this year.
Izobell will take you on a storytelling adventure about the ‘stoep stories’ usually spoken about amongst neighbours, from old people’s advice to safari suits and the hand-me-downs from one generation to the next. In an authentic way he’ll entertain the crowd in his unique style by delivering some original a cappella songs that will enlighten everyone about the types of relationships which have shaped him over the years into who he is today. He delves into the eccentricities of society’s views on social status and class differences in a comedic way which will resonate with audiences from all walks of life.
It’s a laugh-a-minute one-man show with tales that have moulded our lives and contributed towards our roles in society, creating the canvas for our laughter about our identity in life. By observing people and their habits, and exploring how they deal with life’s situations, this show is sure to have you feeling good about your own journey filled with great memories.
Expect to see a different side to this performer that we’ve yet to discover in an evening filled with humour, comedy and storytelling.
